Prelude - Library of Parent functions
Learning Objective: SWBAT
- Provide an overview of basic information for the types of parent functions that will be reviewed as a part of this course.
- The information provided on this overview are for "parent" functions, which means BEFORE any transformations
- Most of the parent functions that are studied in Unit 1 were covered in Algebra 2. These functions include Linear, quadratic, polynomial, square root, and rational. Absolute Value Functions will likely be new all other functions should be review
- The parent functions of that are studied in unit 2 may have been covered in Algebra 2. These functions include exponential and logarithmic. For some of you this will be review, for others it will be new.
- The six Trigonometric parent functions will be covered in unit 4
- The basic shape of each parent function graph
- The end behavior of the parent function graph
- The x and y intercepts of the parent function graph
- The parent function equation
- The domain and range of the parent function
- How performing mathematical operations on the parent function equation transform the graph, its critical points and its domain/range.
- Ultimately in addition to knowing the above you will need to be able to graph and determine the domain and range transformed functions without the aid of a calculator.
